Marathi, Chania – Crete
JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa
Setting
The resort lies on the east coast of the Akrotiri peninsula near Marathi, directly on the sea. Chania airport is about 9 km or 15 minutes away, Souda harbour around 17 km, and the Venetian old town of Chania roughly 30 minutes by car. Marathi itself is a quiet coastal village with a fine sandy beach and three tavernas, considerably more relaxed than the hotel zones west of the city.
Grounds & architecture
The resort covers around 100 hectares of coastline and comprises 160 rooms, suites and villas with sea views. The architecture is restrained: low, honeycomb-arranged buildings of stone, concrete and wood, terraced into the hillside, which keeps the resort intimate despite its size. Many categories have a private pool and generous terraces. The house opened in June 2025 and is among the newest luxury resorts in western Crete.
Dining
Five culinary concepts: Ōnalos as a fish restaurant right on the beach, Anöee serving Cretan cuisine over open fire with foraged ingredients, Cuccagna as an Italian trattoria by the pool, Fayi with Mediterranean sharing plates, plus the Suncti pool bar and the all-day bar Eéxis with cocktails made from Cretan herbs. The resort's own JW Garden supplies herbs for kitchen and bar, and the JW Market offers local produce, wines and cold-pressed juices.
Spa & activities
The Anoseas Spa has five treatment rooms, a couple's suite, steam bath, KLAFS sauna, beauty room, indoor vitality pool and a yoga deck above the sea. The fitness and mobility studio offers Technogym equipment, sunrise yoga, TRX, HIIT, guided hikes and a parkour trail. There are three outdoor pools, an indoor pool and a private beach with snorkelling grounds. We are happy to arrange excursions to Balos and Gramvousa by boat, the Samaria Gorge or Elafonisi.
